I wasn’t invited, I wasn’t even notified, but what makes it so exquisitely horrible is that it is going to be taking place right under me.  In my day job, I work right above the venue.  In the past we’ve suffered through the end of our work days with various delicious smells filtering up into our offices, but this is going to be too much.  I’m either going to have to storm the gate, or slink away home before the cooking starts.

Bacon Makes It a Little Better

I was about to get into our car this morning when I noticed that someone had creased the hell out of the driver’s side door. No note from anyone accepting responsibility.

Fortunately, I was on my way to breakfast. An extra order of bacon takes the edge off.

Bacon: A Love Story

March 4, 2009 · Posted in lifestyle · 1 Comment

I was rooting around the web for some tasty bacony morsels to share with you all when I came across Bacon Unwrapped.

In looking around, I found that the blogger, Heather Lauer, has a book coming out called “Bacon: A Love Story” (pre-order link).  I don’t know much about the book, but the cover is certainly attractive and the contents look appetizing, with sections on making bacon, recipies with Bacon, Bacon history, and more. Bacon Explosion Poses the Question: Is There Such Thing as Too Much Bacon?

January 28, 2009 · Posted in lifestyle, the kind you eat · Comment

The New York Times Food and Dining section brings news of an important experiment.  Jason Day and Aaron Chronister, two competitive BBQers from Kansas City have manged to fuse the three greatest pork preparations (Sausage, Bacon, and BBQ) into one amazing dish.  They call it Bacon Explosion.

Details of the experiment are available on the BBQ Addicts website. Jason Day has provided all the information you need to create your own Bacon Explosion, including a deceptively short list of ingredients, and detailed assembly instructions, complete with helpful photos.

I’ll be honest, I admire the passion for Bacon in some of these projects, but I wouldn’t want to eat the end result.  That’s not the case with Bacon Explosion.  My mouth is watering, and not just because it is past lunch time.

Bacon Flavor without Bacon?

baconedgeIs bacon salt the ultimate food seasoning?

Invented by “two regular guys who love grilling and football on Sunday afternoons,” bacon salt is both vegetarian and Kosher, and, of course, it promises to bring the great taste of Bacon to everything and everyone!

It sounds like a beautiful dream, doesn’t it? I’d like to believe, I really would, but I can’t help but be skeptical. After all, how can you possibly have the great taste of bacon without the great taste of pork?  Pork, for those of you who might not know, is neither vegegarian, nor Kosher.

But that’s not all.  Bacon salt is low-sodium!  Again, I want to believe, I really do.  But, but, but here is the thing.  Salt is MADE of sodium. saltshakerSo how is it that you can have bacon salt that’s somehow low in salt and lacks bacon completely?  What’s left?

I’ll be honest with you right now, I have no idea, I haven’t tried the stuff, and knowing what I know now, I don’t think I would, except for my deep sense of obligation, to you, my dear readers.  And so, I will try this bacon salt that lacks bacon and comes up short on salt and report back to you.

Until then, I’ll leave you to ponder this.  Bacon salt comes in 10 different flavors.
